M-CRIL’s role in The Global Microscope 2019: The enabling environment for financial inclusion

M-CRIL is pleased to be have been associated with the Global Microscope 2019. M-CRIL has been contributing to this annual Study since 2014. It is a compendium on the state of financial inclusion in 55 countries covering following five domains: Government and Policy Support, Stability and Integrity, Products and Outlets, Consumer Protection, Infrastructure.

Capacity building of the Enterprise Team of PGMF, Myanmar

M-CRIL is proud to have partnered with Pact Global Microfinance Fund (PGMF), Myanmar’s largest microfinance institution in capacity building of its Enterprise Team during August 2019 for ‘’Enterprise Loan Training for its Enterprise Managers & Loan Officers’’. With 20,000 enterprise clients, PGMF is increasingly focussed on micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) as a way to contribute to the economic growth, employment potential and equitable development in Myanmar.

Amret reconfirms its commitment to client protection

We are pleased to share that Amret has successfully renewed its SMART Campaign Client Protection Principles (CPP) certificate, after receiving certification for the first time in 2016. The renewal of Amret’s certificate was announced on 19 February 2019 after the mid-term review by M-CRIL, one of the Smart Campaign auditors. Amret’s reaffirmed commitment to respect industry-accepted consumer protection standards demonstrates its continued focus on serving its target clients – micro, small and medium enterprises and low income people – responsibly.

AMK awarded the Leader Milestone Certificate by Truelift

We are pleased to share that AMK was awarded the Leader Milestone Certificate by Truelift and is the first institution in Cambodia to achieve this. M-CRIL completed a Truelift assessment of AMK operations as part of its social rating of AMK. With this AMK joins six other FIs globally as Truelift Leaders in microfinance. The Truelift Certification signifies AMK’s commitment to bring about positive and enduring change for people living in conditions of poverty.

M-CRIL Announcement – Country Manager, Myanmar

We are pleased to announce that Tirupathaiah Namani (Tiru) has taken charge of our Myanmar office as Country Manager, Myanmar from January 2019 and is based in Yangon.

Tiru has twenty years of varied experience in institutional assessments/ratings of MFIs, strategy & business planning, risk management, capacity buildings/trainings and conducting monitoring and evaluation of programmes in the areas of financial inclusion, agri-businesses and school assessments across 15 countries including Myanmar. Cambodia Microfinance Association Annual Conference 2018

Sanjay Sinha, MD, M-CRIL was invited by the Cambodia Microfinance Association(CMA) to moderate the first session on New Models, New Players, New Impact at the Annual Microfinance Conference (AMC) 2018 organised by them in Siem Reap on 14 December 2018. The theme of the conference was “Managing Change for a Sustainable Future: The Impact Journey Continues”. The conference deliberations included examining current business models which have spurred phenomenal growth for the last decade and their relevance and sustainability in the future. Discussions were also held on sectoral risks and effort in managing them including the role of modern technology.

Helping Sathapana Bank strengthen their Client Protection standards

M-CRIL conducted a one-day workshop in November 2018 for the Senior Managers of Sathapana Bank (Cambodia) on Client Protection and Client Protection Principles (CPPs). This included working towards examining why client protection was key to risk management at the Bank, and for building understanding and buy-in on the new version of CPPs which encompass more detailed indicators related to loans, savings, insurance and payments. The team also conducted a self-assessment on compliance with the CPPs as part of the workshop.
