Client Protection Certification
M-CRIL offers Client Protection Certifications applying the CERISE+SPTF CP Certification Framework
Certification for client protection is a crucial tool for responsible inclusive finance, providing an independent, in-depth verification that a financial service provider (FSP) has full intent, policies and effective systems to adhere to the client protection standards.
Having contributed to the development of global standards for client protection since 2005, M-CRIL is currently accredited as a CPS certifying body by Cerise + the Social Performance Task Force (SPTF).
The 8 Client Protection Standards represent current best practice for responsible, safe and fair financial services, particularly for those including low income people as their clientele. The 8 standards build on and expand the earlier 7 client protection principles.
The new framework provides a tiered approach to certification, enabling FSPs to build their client protection systems incrementally, and publicly demonstrate good practice as they move towards full compliance.
M-CRIL is one of the approved certification bodies. Cerise+SPTF manages the certification framework and methodology, and works closely with qualified rating agencies to ensure that Client Protection Certifications are meaningful and consistent.
Client Protection Standards
M-CRIL has conducted certifications, surveillance audits/check-ins, and pilot missions in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Vietnam, and Zambia. Scroll down to see the list of institutions certified by M-CRIL.
Client Protection Standards (CPS) works in tandem with ratings and can be combined with a rating mission at a relatively small additional cost, compared to the cost of standalone Certification.
